Our Story – How Push Me Home® Was Born

One afternoon, after a fun ride to the park, our 3-year-old son Tomas suddenly stopped pedalling his bike.

“I’m tired,” he said.

“Okay,” I replied, “you can walk with Mummy while Daddy pushes your bike.”

My husband, Michael, sighed as he bent over and awkwardly pushed the little bike all the way home. His back ached, and by the time we got in the door, he had a spark of an idea. Minutes later, he disappeared into the garage.

He came back with an old tent pole. It fit perfectly into a hole in the rear frame of the bike. “Look! It works like a charm — no bending over,” he said proudly, wheeling the bike around the driveway.

Over the next few weeks, we used that tent pole almost every time we walked to the park. Other parents noticed and said,

“What a great idea!”

That’s when we knew this could help more than just our family.

Turning a Parenting Hack into a Real Product

We knew we needed to refine the idea to make it truly useful for other families:

  • It had to be lightweight, detachable, and comfortable to use.
  • It had to be safe and strong, without damaging the bike or interfering with the seat.
  • And it had to be easy to attach and remove, even on the go.

Michael drew from his technical background. He gained experience tinkering with ideas passed down from his father. I brought my skills as a teacher. I also brought my skills as a mum.

Inspired by extendable luggage handles, we designed a push handle that could:

  • Extend and retract easily
  • Fit securely to any child’s bike
  • Be compact and travel-friendly for families on the move

We developed a special clamp. It attaches without affecting the bike’s seat. We also added a quick-release bolt for convenience. But manufacturing in Australia proved too costly.

Made in Taiwan, Designed in Australia

We didn’t want to compromise on quality or raise the price beyond what everyday parents could afford. So after researching, we chose Taiwan — a country known for its world-class bicycle parts manufacturing.

Michael flew over to meet with manufacturers. After months of testing and prototyping, the first official Push Me Home® handle was born.

We registered the design and brand name. We also secured an innovation patent. We are determined to make this a trusted solution for families everywhere.

From First Bike Rides to Family Adventures

By the time Tomas outgrew his bike, our daughter was ready for her first ride — and the Push Me Home® handle helped her every step of the way. Whether she was learning to push the pedals, getting distracted by birds, or just too tired to keep going, the handle gave us confidence, comfort, and a whole lot fewer tantrums.

Expanding the Idea for Trikes

As more families discovered our product, parents started asking:

“Can this work with trikes too?”

We saw the need and adapted. Trikes have different frames and fixed seats, so we redesigned the clamp to fit around the rear frame instead. Best of all — we were able to manufacture the trike adapter right here in Australia.
